Social Progress Party
Politics to serve all of society, not just the wealthy and powerful.

SPP Founder & Party Leader:
Oliver Edwards
I am very excited (and nervous) to be launching this website to support the establishment and growth of the Social Progress Party.
Please do take the time to review our policies and principles, and let me know if you find them appealing. Since it is very early days in the process of growing the party, I am currently only able to take feedback through X/twitter, so please find me there ( @SocialProgressX ).
Alternatively you can donate and leave comments at: https://gofund.me/a147b3bb
About...
Why create the SPP?
I have had no direct involvement in politics until the creation of the SPP, but have always had an interest in politics and its impact on individuals and society. Like many people, I have become increasingly interested and correspondingly frustrated with the state of UK politics since the Brexit vote in 2016, in which I should add, I voted to Remain.
The subsequent dishonesty and lack of principles in managing the UK’s departure from the EU, the hypocrisy, mismanagement and alleged corruption of the COVID crisis, the lack of action on climate change, the rise of 'post-truth' politics and the emergence and tolerance of more extremist views and policies have angered many people and poisoned much of our national political debate. The current government is, in my view, completely inadequate and actively harming the UK's social fabric and its future. While I believe that the Labour party is a serious party with some talented and honourable members, it has done a poor job of offering a coherent and meaningful platform to motivate voters beyond "not being the Conservatives".
My political views are reflected in the party’s Core Principles and draft policies, which I do not believe are reflected by any current party, or many current MPs. I would be very grateful if you would take the time to review them and consider whether they offer solutions that would help create a more balanced and healthier society, and make your life and those of your friends and family better and easier.
I have voted LibDem, Labour and Green in the past, but have never felt that I truly identified with any of these parties. The Social Progress Party is the party that I wish had already existed.
About me
I was born in April 1977 in Redhill, Surrey, educated at Whitgift School, South Croydon and the University of Hull, where I was awarded a 2:1 BA (Hons.) in American Studies, graduating in 2000.
I have been a qualified accountant (ACA) since 2004, and since then have worked for a global marketing and advertising group negotiating and implementing commercial relationships with major multinational clients.
I am married with two daughters and live in South East London. I enjoy travelling and have previously lived for short periods (10 months and seven months respectively) in Baton Rouge (LA., USA) and Sydney (Australia). I was a third generation fan of Wimbledon FC, and am now a supporter of their "phoenix" club, AFC Wimbledon. I am also a member of Greenpeace.
