Secondary Education

Underlying Principles

o    Middle School:
    Initial phase of transition from Primary with an equalisation of learning attainment.
    Streaming of classes to reflect capability, with choice given to parent(s) when a pupil sits between two levels.
    An emphasis on emotional growth through puberty, including age appropriate discussions on empathy, friendship, kindness, emotions, sexuality, gender, racism, religion, cultural differences, neurodiversity, bullying and conflict resolution.
    Financial management/practical economics introduced as a new topic from age 12.
    FM/PE, Maths, English, Sciences, History, Philosophy, Geography, and Art all to be studied until at least age 16.
    Meaningful sports provision and participation for all until aged at least 16.
    Additional support for SEN and Gifted pupils.
          Nutritional support is essential.
    Parental/Guardianship Contracts, whereby commitments are made by the school in return for commitments by the parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding support for the child and for the school.
    GCSEs replaced by a new qualification based on consistent curriculums and exams for all, with your national percentile placement determining your grade.
    Less ability for parents to manipulate the selection system, so your catchment area more closely dictates your child’s school.
    Maximum pupil numbers per year group, and maximum class sizes.

o    Sixth Form/Vocational College:
    Less academic specialisation, with four courses taught as standard for a new A-level equivalent, rather than three.
    A wider understanding that Vocational Colleges can be a suitable and appropriate route to qualifications for many teenagers.
