Roads & Vehicles

Safer roads through targeting unsafe drivers:

Raise motorway speed limit; restrict vehicle top speeds; greater focus on dangerous driving; invest in public transport; insurance regulation; new driver probation period.

Underlying Principles:

Motor and electric vehicles are an important part of our transport and supply infrastructure, and despite their inherent problems, are unlikely to be replaced in all but the most long-term of futures.  Making the best and cleanest use of them should therefore be the aim of any policy framework to be applied.

Similarly, our existing road network needs to be made as reliable and appropriate as possible for the number of journeys taken and changes in population density and spread.

The expansion of the current road network to meet demand is not desirable, a reduction in traffic flow will always be a better option.  However, where this is not possible, any road widening or building must be appropriately consulted.

Property developers must engage with local councils to agree and minimise the likely impact of developments on the local road network and fund any changes that are directly attributable to their development.
