Sports

Increase engagement in sport:

Increase schools’ sports provision; create protected status for "community assets" in sport.

Underlying Principles:

A healthy society provides space and time for all to engage in physical exercise.

The appropriate integration of sport and physical activity into lifestyles should be from the youngest age possible, and be supported throughout life.

Community based and integrated sports institutions should be protected from capricious ownership/management and excessively risky financial commitments.

As with taxation, whereby the biggest beneficiaries of a regulated and supported society make the biggest contribution to maintain it, sports clubs, institutions and leagues that benefit most from the goodwill, investment and dedication of junior and “grass roots” clubs, institutions and leagues should contribute to their development and maintenance.

Mechanisms whereby material funds (either in single transactions, or cumulatively by type and time) are transferred out of sport to individuals and/or businesses should be discouraged in order to protect the sports itself.

Increased sports provision and facilities in schools.

Greater regulation of private/ shareholder ownership of UK teams and leagues
